Florida isn’t called the “Sunshine State” for nothing! Even in the winter time, residents and visitors enjoy sunny, balmy days that are perfect for a day out on the water. As you plan your adventures along Florida’s Gulf coast, you’ll want to consider the weather and don’t forget about the winds.  Please check the National Weather website for current conditions on the water.

The Tampa Bay area enjoys an early, mild spring with occasional rain showers. Usually by early March, many days are balmy and bright. Spring temperatures are generally in the low 60’s through the mid 70’s, although occasionally we experience higher or lower temperatures. Springtime is the ideal time to visit if you want to avoid the heat without sacrificing the sunshine.

Summertime temperatures also start early, usually by late May or early June. The summer weather generally stretches through at least September, providing plenty of time for tourists to enjoy all the area’s attractions. Nearby Tampa is also nicknamed the “lightning capital,” thanks to frequent summer thunderstorms. These storms usually come on in the afternoon and are quite brief–sometimes they last only 15 to 20 minutes. It’s important for boaters, especially novices, to pay attention to weather changes during this time of year.

Both visitors and residents often particularly enjoy the autumn months in the Tampa area. Though the leaves don’t change colors, the temperature also doesn’t drop much; most visitors find the Florida fall quite lovely. Know that hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the weather before any outing on the water.

Florida winters are quite mild, and temperatures rarely drop below the 40’s. Though  Floridians may shy away from outdoor activities, our Northern counterparts often embrace the brisk weather. Fishing expeditions can also be quite exciting in the winter months.
